Virtual Safaris

Many of our favourite safari lodges and partners are offering virtual safaris during this time, which while not the same as being out in the bush but are a pretty cool way to take a break and enjoy a few moments of escapism. Here are some of our favourite ones:

  • Singita has launched their Virtual Game Drives – live wildlife sightings broadcast on Instagram by Resident Photographer, Ross Couper. In addition to the live drives they are also posting daily Instagram Stories from the wilderness in an effort to transport you to Africa through your phone and immerse you in the incredible landscapes.   • Tanda Tula have created their #SofaSafari series. Jump alongside the guides for a virtual safari in the beautiful Timbavati which is one of our favourite areas in the Kruger Check It Out Here. We also recommend taking a look at Chad Cocking’s instagram feed, he is one of the Tanda Tula guides and a fantastic photographer. Check out his highlights here

  • Londolozi Game Reserve is creating a weekly highlights reel of what is happening in the reserve so you can get your safari fix by clicking here

  • Angama Mara alongside Adam Bannister Wildlife are putting together daily videos of what the Masai Mara is like during this time. Ever wondered what it would be like to have the Mara all to yourself? They are living the dream and you can join them too. Check It Out Here

  • Mala Mala Game Reserve is putting together a playlist called “Rangers in Isolation”. In every episode the rangers who have stayed behind in the camps, compile the highlights of their daily drives. It’s worth watching alone just for the scenery along the Sand River.

  • Painteddog.tv offers a slightly different take as you get to an almost behind the scenes look at life in the bush. With live sessions that are hosted by Brent Leo-Smith, where he discusses the animals, life in the bush and answers questions from viewers. They have also created a mini docu-series called the “Tale of Two Mothers”, which is worth a watch. Interested? Check It Out Here

  • andBeyond‘s guides both in the Sabi Sand (Kirkman’s Kamp and Tengile) and Phinda Private Game reserve are out everyday monitoring the wildlife out in the bush, tuning into and Instagram live feed when they come across sightings so you can enjoy them too

  • Lion Sands Game Reserve (Sabi Sand) and Madikwe Safari Lodge (Madikwe Game Reserve) have joined the virtual safari world. With a core lockdown crew, rangers in both lodges have taken it upon themselves to head into the bush to capture the daily life in the reserves during lockdown for your enjoyment. Check It Out Here

  • Sabi Sabi Game Reserve have focused more on the youngsters with their series  “EleFun Escapes in the Wild” as they sharie fun facts about the fauna and flora of the African Bush for all those budding young conservationists. Check It Out Here
